The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
