England to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
The England national team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated entry for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.
England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.
Competition Kickoff and Protest
The tournament was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were barracked as they entered the site by approximately 50 activists, who called for Israel’s national side to be kicked out from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will include the Dragons if they qualify.
The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract households and help reach a wider spectrum of fans.
Participating Countries
The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.
Venues and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
