Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
