Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive of the incident remains unclear and no arrests are in custody, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the site overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocks and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the location.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to establish their location," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, stated the loved ones are reeling to process his death.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," were her words.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were ready to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
She urged the citizens to avoid sharing explicit content from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that was broadcast on a popular local TV network.
Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including security provision, providing elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in building administration and participated in tenant removals.

A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my decisions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we must aspire to be," was his tribute.
A political leader stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an profound impact."
In a communication, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will live on".
