Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with results this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
