The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
