Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
